A Woof story
There is a particular kind of freedom that belongs only to dogs.
Not the managed freedom of a lead and a pavement. The other kind — the kind that involves grass underfoot, wind in the ears, and the full, unfiltered joy of running simply because running is possible.
Auckland, for all its density, has held onto its green spaces. And within them, a collection of parks that understand what off-leash really means.

Macleans Park — Mellons Bay
Vast open space with views across the Hauraki Gulf. Bush walks, access to Eastern Beach, a flying fox. The kind of park that earns a full day rather than an hour.

Te Tātua-a-Riukiuta / Big King Reserve — Mount Roskill
Panoramic city views, a mix of flat and steep terrain, long grass and short. Popular after work for good reason — it resets something.

Waiata Reserve
Remuera
Waiata Reserve Completely off-leash. Rolling hills, large open spaces.
Full StevieLicksx seal of approval. 🐾

Corban Reserve — Henderson
An expansive dog agility course set within a fully off-leash reserve. Bring treats for the obstacles. Bring water — there's no tap.gs.

Churchill Park — Paremoremo
Pastures, woodlands, bush. Completely off-leash beyond the school boundary. Occasional grazing cattle for those who like their walks with a little extra drama.

Ōrākei Basin Reserve — Ōrākei
A scenic walkway from Ōrākei to Meadowbank with Auckland skyline views.
Off-leash from the Ōrākei Road car park and along the Upland Road pathway.

Ōwairaka / Te Ahi-kā-a-Rakataura — Mt Albert
Mt Albert
Ōwairaka Domain A dedicated dog exercise area with a large fenced section for the escape artists among us. Muddy puddles included at no extra charge.

Auckland Botanic Gardens — Manurewa
Duck ponds, boardwalks, plants from across the globe. A designated off-leash area beyond the rose garden to the north. Horticulture and dogs — a surprisingly good combination.

Craigavon Park — Green Bay
A walking trail, a stream for water-loving dogs, and generous shade under old trees. A reliable all-weather option.
Good Company. The city is better when there's somewhere to let go.
